Welcome to the Interactive English course! This course emphasizes the interactive use of English. The four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking will be covered with an emphasis on speaking and writing.
There is no textbook for this class, but you will need to have a clear folder for handouts and to save your handwritten work. You will be expected to have a pen or pencil and notepaper. You will also need to bring your computer to class.
Points to consider: The course is in English, and students are expected to communicate in English. As this is an interactive class, full attendance and participation are expected. The syllabus is subject to change and revision according to the needs and abilities of the students and situational constraints.
Learning Objectives:
Students should improve their oral communication and written skills and try to express themselves actively.
Students should learn to respect and show sensitivity toward “other points of view.”

Week 3: Introducing the book you finished reading; Paragraph writing 1; M-Reader test.
Week 4: Paragraph writing 2.
Week 5: Introduction to essays; Process writing.
Week 6: Peer reviewing essays; Sharing opinions.
Week 7: Proofreading essays:Sharing knowledge and responding.
Week 8: Introduction to presentations.
Week 9: Presentation 1.
Week 10: Peer reviewing essay 2; Critical thinking skills.
Week 11: Proofreading essays.
Week 12: Presentation 2.
Week 13: Speaking test.
Week 14: Course review.
Week 15: Final examination.
Grading:
Extensive Reading: 20%
*If you read 80,000+ words AND pass the M-Reader tests, you will be awarded 20%.
*If you read 70,000-79,999 words AND pass the M-Reader tests, you will be awarded 15%.
*If you read 60,000-69,999 words AND pass the M-Reader tests, you will be awarded 10%.
*If you read less than 60,000 words, you will be awarded 0%.
Essays: 10%
Presentations: 10%
Speaking test: 10%
Class Reports: 10%
Class Preparation and Participation: 30%
Final Examination: 10%
Please note: Students need a cumulative score of 60 or higher to pass the course. However, students absent four or more times are ineligible to take the final exam or make-up test.
